How do we mobilize younger generations worldwide to do something positive for our planet?

Pitch:

Born in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to become the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment, inspiring individuals, communities, businesses and organizations in more than 190 countries and territories to take tangible environmental action. Where the aim is to create an unstoppable movement for nature, by switching off the lights for one hour.

So, how did we invade the world of gaming with this fantastic initiative?

We brought together Fortnite’s publisher Epic Games and the global Earth Hour team at WWF international to switch off the lights in-game. More specifically, one of the largest games worldwide: Fortnite.

Multiple Fortnite Creative build teams were enthusiastic right off the bat and created activations that raised awareness for Earth Hour inside their most popular Fortnite Creative experiences.

We enhanced the player experience by adding an additional challenge. During Earth Hour our Fortnite experiences where only accessible when using your flashlight, while simultaneously raising awareness.

Results:

Hundreds of thousands of players entered our dim-lit worlds and interacted with the important message of Earth Hour during the weekend of March 25th and 26th.
