How can gaming be used to make reading more enjoyable for teenagers and young adults?

We partner The Reading Alliance/Coalition with Ubisoft, one of the biggest game publishers globally. Ubisoft’s best-known game is Assassin’s Creed. The game became popular because of its realistic and elaborate storyline. It inspired us to create new stories based on the in-game world. Dutch authors Ronald Giphart and Margje Woodrow wrote the ‘Hidden Tales’ behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, for teenagers aged 14 – 18. The tales were published in the Ubisoft Special app. Videos, visuals, and audio fragments further enhanced the reader’s experience. The resulting tales and experience, we named the first example of Readification: a new strategy to counter the decline in reading behaviour we have been witnessing amongst adolescents in the Netherlands. And a way to connect the literary and gaming worlds.
